Bumper Harvest, Press Attention, New Deals and Awards Wins — The Latest from SHORE Seaweed

Our sister company SHORE have enjoyed a strong dulse harvest this autumn, recognition from journalists and awards panels and distribution deals in the UK and abroad.

The autumn season has been a successful time for SHORE - The Scottish Seaweed Co. — including concluding a record-breaking harvest at the end of October, thanks to strong spring tides and seaweed-friendly weather (read: blustery!).

It's a great sign of things to come, and SHORE's seaweed harvesting work along the Scottish coastline recently garnered attention from national news media.

Seaweed Farms in the Spotlight

SHORE were featured recently in an article by The Mirror focusing on the seaweed farms that are emerging across the UK's coastlines — detailing the environmental and nutritional benefits of algae, and the fast-growing aquaculture industries across the country.

Peter Elbourne, Managing Director Supply & Operations, offered perspective on seaweed and the need to learn, and learn quickly: “There isn’t one seaweed that’s good for everything. Some are more similar than others but there is such a variety that you have to have knowledge of the raw material to be able to use it properly.

We had to learn everything from scratch. A lot of effort from a lot of people, none of whom had ever done anything like it before.”

Distribution Deals — TK Maxx and Delhaize

Big news for bargain-hunting fashion fans in the UK — SHORE Seaweed Chips are available in TK Maxx stores across the nation. This is another brilliant milestone for Aquascot's sister company, bringing these crunchy, tasty and light snacks to more people than ever before.

On the continent, SHORE also now have products listed in over 200 Delhaize supermarkets across Belgium. This is a hugely exciting deal for the business, and fulfilling significant orders like this is only achievable thanks to the hard work and dedication of the whole team.

This has never been more evident than in September 2021, when the team came together to hand-label over 30,000 packs of SHORE Seaweed Chips with French and German language labels — in the space of just 3 days. It's this 'roll your sleeves up' approach that makes SHORE a success, at home and abroad.

New Award Wins

Following wins at the likes of the World Food Innovation Awards and the Free From Food Awards earlier in the year, SHORE have had yet more success in front of the judging panel.

SHORE's Seaweed Chips picked up two prizes — a Gold award ('Purely Plants' category) at the Nourish Awards and the highly sought-after Best Savoury Snack award at the Great British Food Awards 2021. Both gongs are great achievements, and the latter is a huge win considering the strength of the other nominees in the category.

Aquascot are delighted to see SHORE going from strength to strength and receiving this kind of recognition from industry experts and tastemakers — long may it continue.
